When Dana Crosby ‘84 transferred to UMN Morris, he found that the university offered the same small town advantages he had growing up, with big opportunities. He appreciated that he could play baseball here—something he says he wouldn’t have been able to do at a larger university. It was this continued participation in sports he says that fostered discipline, teamwork, and a commitment to lifelong fitness. Crosby points out that these qualities contributed to his success and wellbeing.
“I want future student athletes to enjoy the same benefits and experiences.”
To help with this, he and his wife, Michelle, decided to support Cougar athletics through a future gift.
They were also eager to support current students through academic scholarship.
“UMM represents the best of higher education: accessible, personal, and transformative,” says Crosby.
The new Dana and Michelle Crosby Free Enterprise Scholarship was available to students starting this fall.
“I hope it encourages future leaders who understand and value free enterprise,” says Crosby.
The scholarship is geared toward students who are studying economics or business management.
“The scholarship reflects my belief in the power of the American free enterprise system,” says Crosby. “I’ve experienced firsthand the opportunities capitalism provides.”
It’s that experience that inspires the Crosbys to support students who are pursuing business, finance, and entrepreneurship—fields that drive innovation, create jobs, and expand prosperity.
In addition to wanting to help foster entrepreneurial innovation in students at UMN Morris, the Crosbys note that giving back allows them to invest in the success of the next generation.
“I hope [our] gifts open doors for students who are eager to work hard, think independently, and make a positive impact—whether in business, athletics, or life.”
